Uncrowned
A downloadable game for Windows
The theme "Freedom, But At What Cost?" is woven directly into the core gameplay loop, forcing the player to physically feel the weight of their moral choices. Rather than just telling the story through dialogue, the level design makes the temptation to sacrifice humanity genuinely appealing.
The Cost of Discipline
By default, keeping the chain intact preserves the Prince's humanity, but the physical cost is steep. The player must endure sluggish movement, heavy gravity, and tedious tasks like slowly pushing the box across the 3-tile gap. Doing the right thing is intentionally designed to feel unrewarding and frustrating.
The Seduction of Freedom
The golden shrines offer an immediate escape from this frustration. Breaking a chain link provides instant gratification—unlocking abilities like the Double Jump that make traversal fast, floaty, and incredibly fun. The game deliberately makes the "wrong" choice feel mechanically superior.
The Hidden Consequence
The true cost of this physical freedom is cumulative. Every time the player chooses convenience over endurance to bypass a tedious puzzle, they absorb the cursed gold. Choosing the fast route ultimately costs the Prince his soul, transforming him into a corrupted monster and locking in the "Tyrant" bad ending.
